Getting dns_probe_finished_nxdomain for the past few weeks. Possibly linked to the last firmware
Hello, for the past 2 or 3 weeks I have been experiencing a recurrent issue loading new webpages.
After entering the address and going to the site, I get a dns_probe_finished_nxdomain error.
After refreshing a few times I manage to get to the site but it is really annoyiong and frequent. It happens more often when I open new pages on different sites but it sometimes happen when I move between pages on the same site.
I went to the painful process of reseting the router to the default settings but that didn't help so in the meantime I activated the access point on my cable modem (C3700-100NAS). The modem works just fine and my R8000 Nighthawk router gave me several years of flawless performance until a few weeks ago.
When I went to the router settings I was greeted with different messages offering me to control the router from the phone, sign up to provide statistics and I think they were offering a new service. That was really dissapointing. It seems that the last update not only caused problems to my router but filled it with bloatware.
I hope the devs can fix this and publish updated firmware.
Here are links to posts of people that are facing similar issues.
I see that people are having similar problems with other NetGear products like AC1750 and orbi
I was able to roll back to firmware version V1.0.4.68_10.1.75 and solve the issue.
It is definitively an issue introduced in R8000-V1.0.4.74_10.1.80
I also noted that the router setup screens are more responsive in this version.
Guess I'll need to stick to this outdated version until the WiFi6e routers come out.
Hopefully Netgear removes the bloatware, increases the technical support (3 months is a joke), and substantially increases the maximum amount of clients, otherwise I'll be looking for a different brand.

Try downgrading the firmware a version or 2. That's helped most people.
some have needed to downgrade and then factory reset but I'd start with the downgrade first
