how to access only the 4.2 Ghz to connect a robot on 2016 nighthawk x6 AC 3000 router?
My Nighthawk X6 AC 3000 router has triband wifi. I want to bypass the 5 Ghz and connect my new Roborock mop/vac to the 2.4 Ghz band; but keep getting a "can not connect" message. How do I physically designate the 2.4 Ghz on my router?
I am a complete newby to all this. Thx

Is this because the Roborock only works with 2.4 GHz? If so, you shouldn't have to worry about "bypassing 5 GHz". Devices that work only on 2.4 GHz will not see 5 GHz.
Which router do you own? The nighthawk x6 AC 3000 router could be several things.
AC3000 is not a unique Netgear model number. Many devices come with the AC/AX tag, but it is essentially a label that Netgear, and others, attach to hardware to describe wifi speeds.
Look at the label on the device for the Model Number. And, if there is one, include the "V" bit to show the hardware version. If there is no V number, then you have V1.
Some of these devices deploy "Smart Connect" which means they use the same SSID for 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz.
The trouble can come in when the people who make these IoT gadgets write crappy app that don't know how to handle Smart Connect.
There have been several discussions of getting these things to work.

As I said I am not tech savvy, so thank you for explaining that. As to more information this is an older router purchased in 2016. the information on the bottom has the
seriel number: 4EU36472A21D2 and the model B07FB98FB9F5 if that is any help. NO V that I see anywhere.
I do understand the difference in the bands and that the lower one is what I need. I also know it is part of this unit. However, I can not get the Roborock vac to find it and connect.

Can you see two SSID's being broadcast from your router? If not, disable smart connect if it exists and give each frequency band a different SSID.
If you are using an application on a mobile device, you need to be certain the mobile device is also connected to the 2.4 GHz band before trying to run the application and configure your device.

You can disable smart connect.
What is Smart Connect and how do I enable or disable it on my NETGEAR router? - NETGEAR Support
but you shouldn't need to. My roborock connects fine.
A little more details of your setup might help and the error.
