How to Update R7000 from 1.0.3.68?
Hello. A friend has an R7000 router currently still using firmware 1.0.3.68_1.1.31 and I tried to update it via the control panel's Check for new firmware mechanism. All it ever did was say "trying to to connect to Netgear Server". This happened on multiple attempts and nothing else. I am presuming that this might have to do with the installed firmware being too old. Any suggestions/tips on how to get this done? I am very concerned about bricking the router or loosing existing configuration information as I have to do the updating remotely. Thanks

Download the FW file needed and manually install it using a wired PC and web browser using the manual tab:

Thanks. So there is no problem in trying to make the jump from 1.0.3.68 all the way to 1.0.11.136 in a single bound? Again, I am very concerned about possibly bricking or otherwise messing up the router since I am doing it remotely for a very non-technical friend. Thanks

Should not be any problems if they follow the instructions.
Again use a wired PC and web browser. MS Edge in Windows or Safari for Apple.
