I have the netgear nighthawk r8000 with very bad bufferbloat

I own a Nighthawk x6 r8000 router (Firmware V1.0.4.66_10.1.75)  and I have very high bufferbloat that ends up causing alot of lag thoughout playing games the modem it is connected to is a Hitron CGNM-2250. I have been trying to fix this problem for ages Ive tried QOS and smart connect in the app and nothing seems to fix it does anyone have any ideas on what is causing it could it be the router or my modem? I would hate to have to buy another router only having this one for a year and a half. I tested the buffbloat on DSLReports.com/speedtest and the bufferbloat is between 144-400+ bufferbloat. Im also under charter spectrum business.

Do you think getting the modem bridged first is a good idea or just getting a new modem and if I do get a new modem can I use my own personal bought modem or do I have to get charter spectrum to replace it or upgrade it?

Try just testing the modem first. Direct connect to it and test your buffer bloat.

If its not good, then potentially replace. I don't think spectrum charges for modem rentals so you could always see if they'll replace it. Or there aftermarket modems that do work with spectrum.

From personal experience bluffer bloat can be caused by the modem. I always saw buffer bloat until I swapped out the modem. Then life was good buffer bloat wise.
