I was having some issues with the 2.4GHz not showing properly, but mine was initiated by having a Spectrum router connected after they talked me into it. Their router only displays the network name ...
It sounds like the main issue was caused by both routers broadcasting the same network name. The properties showing 5GHz while the Nighthawk was configured for 2.4GHz makes sense if the device was actually connecting to the Spectrum router instead.
Using the same SSID on two active routers can definitely make it confusing which network the device is connected to, especially when one has a weaker or unstable connection. Powering down the Spectrum router removed that conflict, and everything returned to normal. Good catch!
