Latest R8000 firmware R8000-V1.0.4.76_10.1.82 - Random "Site Not Found" issues
Hi There,
I received a notification of a new firmware (R8000-V1.0.4.76_10.1.82) for R8000 recently. I am currently running R8000-V1.0.4.66_10.1.75 which is very stable.
I know the chequered history of Netgear firmware quality, so I was initially reluctant to upgrade. After thinking about it for 2 days, I decided to give it a shot. Immediately after upgrading, I notice browser (both MS Edge and Firefox) will randomly error with "Site not found". If you refresh it once or twice then the site will load.
It is a strange problem with the latest version of the firmware. I rebooted with it for a couple of days and rebooted the router multiple times. Ultimately, I have to give up and download to the stable version V1.0.4.66_10.1.75.
It is a real shame after so many years, Netgear firmware quality control is just as bad a before. I don't know what else to say. Anyone else have this problem?

Hi,
Same Here. I have following two routers with exactly same issue, 2 differents ISPs.
R6400v1 FW 1.0.1.74 - Long term issue, present also in previous versions of Firmware
R8000 FW 1.0.4.76 - Same issue, occurs in last 2 Firmware versions.
Hope fix will come soon.

Hi Hrabcakm,
Interesting to hear about you having the same random "site not found" problem with your R8000. I am certain that it is a Netgear firmware issue rather than an ISP issue as my ISP has been stable for as long as I can remember.
I am not holding my breath with Netgear fixing bugs as Netgear has a bad history on average, out of every 5 firmware releases there will likely to be only 2 stable versions. Disappointing as new firmwares are suppose to fix security issues but they tend introduce more annoying bugs.

I asked earlier whether the firmware version I just received was faulty, V1.04.76_10.1.82.
No one answered. I guess now I know. I see problems going back some months with firmware being rolled out. I even had trouble connecting here. ;-) I don't know which is the bigger annoyance scrolling back to less secure version of the firmware or refreshing everything a 100 times a day. Let's hope someone at Netgear will endeavor to fix the problem

Thanks for posting. There's been multiple products impacted by this latest round of updates that cause dns issues. Easiest fastest way to fix is the downgrade option. We're just hoping one of the engineers sees the posts since its rare to find someone on here.

Hi Plemans,
Thanks for you post. Interesting to hear that there are multiple products affected by the latest firmware bugs.
Having a software development background, I guess for me that is the disappointing part. Netgear has been negligent. Some simple testing would have caught this bug. I encountered this bug 5 mins after upgrading firmware. Ironically it happened on Netgear site with "Site not found" error !

I too am experiencing the same issue after upgrading the firmware.

It seems that Netgear have abandoned its customer base and left us to fix things ourselves after their screw up.
A rough and ready workaround for the dns issue is as follows:
Go to into routeradmin pages go to advanced home and note the dns entries.
Go to windows control panel and click on ‘Network and sharing centre’
Click ‘change adaptor settings’. DoubleClick the appropriate ethernet/wifi adaptor and click properties,
highlight Internet protocol version 4(TCP/IPv4) click properties:
Click ‘use the following DNS server address’ and enter dns numbers in the ‘preferred dns server’ and alternative server boxes.
This should stop the page not found error
