Log onto Nighthawk R7000 to configure as access point

I have Spectrum as my ISP and have their router set up.  I have a Nighthawk R7000 and want to set it up as an access point that is hardwired to the Spectrum router.  I have not been able to log on at routerlogin.net or using 192.168.1.1 to change the settings in the nighthawk to set it to AP mode.  When I try to log on at routerlogin.net it flips me to a page to use the spectrum app to logon to the router.  I already have access to the spectrum app and don't want to configure it, I need to connect to the nighthawk and configure it.  The spectrum router is obviously being recognized and preventing me from logging on to the nighthawk.  Any ideas on how to connect to the nighthawk to configure AP mode without the spectrum router interfering? I thought perhaps directly cabling my laptop to the nighthawk but, doing so and trying to to log on still did not work.  Thoughts on how to approach?  Thank you.

disconnect if from the spectrum router.

then reboot the netgear router and connect a pc/laptop to it.

on the pc/laptop open a command prompt and type ipconfig

The default gateway should be the routers address.

    Use that to access it.

From there, put it in access point mode.

Then reconnect it to the spectrum modem
