Users often report that their Netgear router fails to discover new firmware. Since Netgear provides no documentation about how firmware updates are supposed to work, we are left to speculate what might cause this. Downloading the firmware and then using the Manual Update feature is the way to install firmware that the router does not discover by itself.
When the firmware image "chk" file is extracted from the zip file, Windows may describe it as "recovered file fragments". Pay no attention to that.
