Media Server

I have a netgear nighthawk x6s (r8000p) I want to use as a media server to watch/stream movies via external hdd in my house. I have set it up from what I can through readyshare but it doesn't seem to see my hdd drive, I can't update the firmware to add plex. Any advice would help
