Neatgear nighthawk D7000 v2 drops out

Connected to australian National Broadband Network fibre 50Mbps connection. Was very stable on old ISP-supplied modem over wifi and ethernet cable (internet connection unavailable only once a month or so).

Replaced old modem with Nighthawk purchased new a few years ago. Connected via ISP tech support who checked settings matched their needs.

Problem: wifi punches through walls to deliver better speed at distance, but internet drops (no internet connection available) several times per week for a few minutes / until powercycled. Both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks drop out.

Modem is on latest firmware as I just factory reset it and updated firmware as part of installation.

Note: I think the modem has always had these issues but they went unoticed in my share house when I wasn't using it for business meetings 8 hours a day.

Could this be a hardware issue? Or are there other possible fixes?

thanks in advance for any help

What is your Internet connection technology. NBN just says "Australian Internet". And every Internet technology has "fibre" somewhere on there, often as a marketing label to make you think it is the bees knees.

What is an NBN network and is my NETGEAR DSL modem router compatible? | Answer | NETGEAR Support

The D7000v2 is a DSL modem/router. Do you have DSL Internet? Or are uoiu one of the many Australians who seem to have a DSL modem/router connected to a different Internet technology?

The D7000v2 can operate as a modem/router, modem only or router only.

It might help if you explained what your network looks like. What device, if any, sits between the D7000v2 and the outside word? Which socket is the Internet plugged into on the D7000v2?

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

    DSL Modems & Routers

In the meantime you could visit the support pages:

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.
