Netgear Nighthawk App Speed Test

When I ran an internet speed test in the past for my R6700 router using the Nighthawk app, I would consistently receive a download speed of 220 Mbps.  My ISP service is 200 Mbps.  My understanding is that the app is testing from my router to the ISP.  When I would connect my laptop directly to the modem, I would also receive a download speed of 220 Mbps.  With recent tests, I am receving an inconsistent download speed of 130-160 Mbps with the Nighthawk app.  However when I connect my laptop directly to the modem, I continue to get 220 Mbps.  The speed tests performed from devices on the network (using tools like fast.com) have not changed. I am using the current version of firmware (V1.0.4.122_10.0.95).   Any ideas on why the speed test on the Nighthawk app would have deteriorated, when it appears that the speed from the modem to the ISP has not changed?  Thanks!

  • The built in speedtest doesn't always pick the best server. it could have been that it picked a poor server for the app test.

I've seen that happen. If you're hitting full speed on the hardwired test with your laptop, I wouldn't worry about it.
