Netgear Nighthawk R7000 Question
Hello all,
I was hoping for some insight regarding some recent issues with my router and if it is router issue or my abysmal WiFi.
Long story short, I have the Nighthawk R7000 and am experienced sporadic network disconnecting. I have to reset the router around 3-5 times a week for WiFi dropping for no apparent reason. Additionally, I experience significant networking issues playing most video games (of note, Warzone).
I have all home devices on the 2.4 GHz network, with maybe 1 or 2 devices on the 5 GHz network and plug my Xbox directly into the router. I have microwave internet and my WiFi download speed is around 10 Mbps download, and .70 upload (abysmal I know; I live in the country)
From reading through other posts, it appears that upgrading the firmware resolves that issue. However, I currently have the stock .88 firmware, with no upgrades available on the app.
Im considering trying a new router and then switching to literally any other internet providers (only other options here are satellite) but wanted to receive any input from y’all before I do so.
Thank you for taking the time to help.

- microchip8MasterActually, downgrading the firmware fixes issues. I heard that .42 is the most stable/well working one but you lose on security updates.

What network issues?
However, I currently have the stock .88 firmware, with no upgrades available on the app.The app is not the most reliable way to check the firmware. That is best done on the support pages for your device.
1.0.9.88, if that is what you have, is about seven versions behind the latest and dates back to late 2000.
The newest appears to be from this week:
R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.134 | Answer | NETGEAR Support
Visit the support pages:
Support | NETGEAR
Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.
That page will also have any software, firmware and drivers for your device, if they exist. - KitsapMaster
I do not know what area of the country you live, but T-Mobile is rolling out some great cell data supported home Wi-Fi solutions. The cost/risk/reward equation is very favorable to the end user.
In reality, the "apps" are of very little use.

Except for things where they are very useful, like Anywhere Access.

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too? What channels are you using? Auto? Try Auto and 48 on 5Ghz. Or try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?Is Smart Connect enabled?
What are you advanced wireless settings configured for?
I had my R7000 online for a good week after v.134 came out. Ran very nicely.
I game as well. BO5.
