JohnnyBurns Ok, firstly, you've confused most people who would wish to help you by listing in your footer a Netgear dual band WiFi usb mini adapter. It would help if you stated which router you have and whether or not it is paired to a modem or if your are connected via fibre through an ONT.
I shouldn't matter, but you don't say which country you are in. It seems that a large proportion of complaints about one particular router, i.e. the R7000 AC1900, come out of the USA.
If you carry out a search on this forum or via a search engine, you will find umpteen similar complaints. I'm going to however switch this around and say that there are plenty of us with the aforementioned router who have absolutely no issues with it at all.
What firmware is your router running?
You say you've tried a firmware update, how did you achieve this, ethernet or WiFi connection?
Where is your router positioned? What are you environmental conditions? Who is your ISP?
Is the firmware/operating systems on all of your connected devices up to date? As an example, I use a laptop with Intel components. I have Intel's update utility installed. My laptop WiFi drivers have been regularly updated via the update utility over the last four years. Never have a connectivity issue with it.
Above all, have you read the manual for the router? That seems a patronising question, but it seems that a great many people who come to the forum for help have seemingly never bothered to even learn how to use their equipment but immediately turn to others for 'advice' who have no idea of your set up.
If it is the R7000 AC1900 router you have, it is a good router despite the absolute damning that some owners slate it with. Unfortunately it would seem as I stated earlier, it can be quite dependent it seems on where in the world you live. I'm in the U.K connected to full fibre optic through an ONT. My router is set up correctly for my ISP and it is running the very latest firmware for the model. No WiFi issues, no disconnections.
If you've checked your router and it is set up correctly and there's nothing wrong with your incoming connection but it's still giving you problems, then perhaps it's time to find a different router/brand.

Oh so true. I have taken to adding a pointer to manuals in many messages. I always add this note:
"I mention it because Netgear gave up on supplying paper manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads."
From time to time someone replies with a "Thanks for that. I didn't know there were manuals."
So, it is by no means a "patronising question". It is surprising how many people turn up with problems, often vaguely worded, that they could easily fix after a few minutes in the manual.
