Nighthawk AC1750 (R6700) won't connect to internet but will ping

My year old router is acting up. It started with "no internet access" on any device. I noticed that the SSIDs were disappearing and reappearing randomly on my phone. I did several resets, including a factory reset. Firmware is up to date.

The internet from modem is OK. A direct connection from there to a computer works fine.

The SSIDs are now stable. IP addresses are being assigned to devices. I can ping sites such as https://www.google.com. But, any attempt to use a browser results in a "no internet access" message. Or a message about not being able to create an https connection. Neither wired or wireless will work from the router. Win10, OSX, iOS all behave the same way.

Any thoughts on additional troubleshooting steps? Is there a configuration that could be blocking web (http/https) access even though ping from a command prompt seems to work normally?

After spending an evening on this I've picked up another router (same) but before unboxing will probably give it one more try later today....

  • This issue is resolved. The Genie app wasn't helpful but logging directly into the router allowed me to see that somehow the Internet settings where wrong. Once I set them appropriately everything started to work again. No idea how they got changed in the first place...I was out of town when it happened.

Is auto update of firmware on? That is the default and maybe there was a new firmware downloaded and installed while you were gone? If on I would suggest turning off.
