Nighthawk AC1900 Model R7000 troubles

Hello everyone!

I am not that savvy when it comes to this stuff so I will try my best to explain. I bought the Nighthawk R7000 last Christmas (2015) and as someone else installed it for me, I feel like I know less as to what is going on. I should have contacted them in the 90 days after purchase (always had issues) but sadly missed that boat. We live in a 800 sf duplex so I would expect this to work. We have 1 cell phone, 1 PS4, 2 tablets and 2 computers but only using 3 of these at a time. What happens is it says connection is excellent (5 bars) but many times still can't connect which is very frustrating as this was not cheap! It does it a lot and even at 3am in the morning (when I can't sleep) which is rediculous. I reset it constantly by hitting the reset button and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I have comcast & it is the fastest connection as my landlord gives this to me free (he is a computer repair guy) so not really sure what is going on. My landlord doesn't either or maybe he sick of hearing me complain...lol. Anyway, I see something about updating firmware. Maybe I need to do this? If so how do I do it and where do I get the update link? I saw updates but afraid as not sure which one to use as I see other people having issues after doing this. Thanks so much and as I am a single mom with a 16 year old son who is constantly complaining to me, any help would be REALLY appreciated! :smileyhappy:

  • Hi Bedette,

Are those devices connected wired or wireless? If it is wireless, change the Wireless password. Update as well the firmware of the router.

Do you have a modem? I'm guessing No. What is the r7000 connect to. Describe the connection.

Hi Searay! No modem but yes I have a router (cable) coming up to my apartment from downstairs. It is my own connection. It is the blue cable that looks like it does when you connect to a telephone. Right now my R7000 shows 7 white lights with 1 red light. Never know what that really means.

I just installed the Netgear Genie App but not sure how to use that either other than seeing my connections.
