Nighthawk c7000 v2 IP release - renew

I am trying to obtain a new public ip address. I log into my router, go to gateway status, and enter connection status. Then I release, wait a few, then renew and I am still getting the exact same ip address. So I have multiple questions as to why this will not work. Is it DHCP? Or do i have to wait 24 hours? Do I have to reset the router after I release my ip? Is another connected device not letting me do this? I am stuck as to why i am unable to do this. Any clues as to why this is happening is greatly appreciated.

    Your ISP is the one who assigns the public ip address. 

    Why are you trying to changing it? Maybe expalaining why you're trying to do something will help us to better help you.

    As plemans says, explain what you are trying to achieve and you might get better advice.

     

    If I wanted to get a new public ip address for some reason, I'd reboot the modem that feeds my network.
