- Nov 21, 2017This is the reply from the helpdesk from yesterday : Hello,
Thank you for contacting Netgear Support.
Unfortunately our developers do not announce the release dates of upcoming firmware, so I am unable to supply you with that information.
You have indicated that there are problems with the router performance since you updated the firmware. In such a case, it is possible to downgrade the firmware, until a new version of the firmware is released that addresses the problems of the earlier version.
To downgrade your firmware, please follow these steps :
1) Go to this link to download the firmware version 1.0.9.10. (Current version is 1.0.9.12)
https://kb.netgear.com/000049003/R7000-Firmware-Version-1-0-9-10
->Save this file, and extract the zip into a folder, e.g. on your desktop
2) Connect an Ethernet cable to your router and a laptop / PC
3) Open a browser and go to this address : routerlogin.net
4) Enter the password that you chose during the router setup. If you did not change it, it will be ‘password’
5) When you see the menu, go to Advanced -> Administration -> Router Update
6) Click on Browse and choose the folder where you unpacked the zip file, then choose the .chk file.
7) Click on Upload and wait for the installation to complete.
I hope this will help you with the performance problem of your router.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Please note that if you prefer to communicate in Dutch just reply to this case in Dutch.
Have a great day,
Kind regards
Joeri

Undtill a newer firmware is released, here is the known fixes/workaround to get the speeds up in this latest v.1.0.9.12xxx version:
And yes, you should do these steps, even if you have QoS disabled! ;-)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 1. Go to QoS Setup (you'll find this option under advanced/setup/QoS Setup/)
Step 2. Put a checkmark in "enable QoS" scroll down and then click on the "Update Now" button in front of the "Automatically update performance optimization database " option. Wait for it to update.
Step 3. Remove the checkmark(important) on the "enable QoS" again and click on the green "Apply" button at the top of QoS menu.
Step 4. Log-out and do a new speedtest and now (hopefully) enjoy your new faster wifi speed! ;-)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If still not work, you can try and re-setup the wifi on your phones. Meaning, deleting the wifi profiles and re-discover the wifi network and re-enter the wifi password on your phones.
Another user, have also suggested to disable the "acces control" feature, if you have it enabled and still need more speed.
Let us know if it helps! :-)

Believe it or not, I have tried all those steps before I commented here :-( and it's still doesn't solve the problem

I think I'm just going to move to dd-wrt, which unfortunately doesn't have the hardware acceleration for NAT'ing

I forgot to include it in my little "quick-fix" guide", but it is ALWAYS a good idea to reset to factory settings, after upgrading to a new firmware version....especially if something does not work after updating, but generaly is always a good idea, in order to be sure the older firmware version does not interfere with the new one. Also, you should never use a saved configuration file from a older firmware version. You need to manually re-enter all the settings in the firmware again. But a tip, instead of spending time writing the settings down in the menus, you can just take a screenshot of the different router settings and copy/paste it into microsoft paint tool and save it as a PNG file for later use.
I have always done it this way, so I guess I have developed a habit of taking it for granted, that everybody else does the same! ;-)

There is a fix coming. I tested it and for me my speeds were identical from 1.0.9.6 (which for me were the same as 1.0.7.X) to new firmware. They are working on it and hopefully released for everyone soon. Don't ask me to give you firmware please, if support wants to share it they will.

Does the 2.4 band work if this firmware?
