Nighthawk R8000P very strange activity since Friday. It renamed our cell phones etc.
On Friday 11/20/2020
- Saw a new network on the Nighthawk app. DEV-41:03:1E IP address 192.168.12 MAC address 92:B4;4C;41;03;1E. Still don’t know what that was. It was on the 5GHz-2 channel. It is not showing in the Nighthawk app now.
- There were times when all wireless devices were listed under the network name and there were no options to choose what channel or to show what channel the devices were on.
- Did some research and that sounds like what Smart Connect does. I haven’t turned this on and it says leaving it off is the default. It doesn’t look like Smart Connect is enabled from what I can see.
- For a while yesterday everything wireless was in one “bin” not divided into 2.4, 5g1, and 5g2. There were new items called networks.
- I was able to log on to the 5G networks with the workstation but now can only use the 2.4 GH tonight after rebooting the router several times.
On Saturday 11/21/2020
- Started having problems connecting to the Nighthawk app. It also required me to log on with admin credentials.
- Everything attached was described as NETWORK. (On Monday the device descriptions had changed so that not everything was a NETWORK. The device descriptions were in the app but many were incorrect such as the printer and TVs were labeled a SMART PHONE.
- Our IPhones still had the correct device names but were described as NETWORK.
11/24/2020
- I finally got Nighthawk to open on my phone with the admin Id and password. Tried this multiple times. Don’t know why it took so many tries.
- Those things that are attached have the correct descriptors with the exception of my phone which says Network instead of iPhone. Last night they all said Network for the description. My phone is not listed as an attached device.
- Our iphones won’t connect consistently. Sometimes it requires me to log on with admin permissions and fails that several times before it let’s me in. Says it timed out.
- Some of the things that we could see were attached last night don’t show up today even after several reboots.
It renamed our phones and now they also say Network
Dev-7A:82:04 NETWORK (2) looks like it is my phone because is blocked the power of positivity as SPAM like it does for my phone.
DEV-1C:4C:A1 IS paused. 192.168.1.2 MAC 52;91;D4;1C;4C;A1. Also had bit defender installed. I didn’t block it but is blocked not. Not listed as an iPhone but as a network. When I unpaused it, Scott could use his phone again.
Printer
- Sometimes it shows the printer and sometimes it doesn’t.
- On Monday, it was named EPSON0412AC and described as a NETWORK.
- Today Wednesday 11/25/2020, it is named EPSON and is described as a SMART PHONE.
- On Sunday it was just named . - - and described as a NETWORK.
- On Monday, it was named Epson and described as a SMART PHONE.
iPads
- Mine is showing in the Nighthawk app. On Monday it was described as a NETWORK and today 11/25/2020, it is described as a TABLET. Has a different IP address than it had on Monday.
- Scott’s is turned on but doesn’t show in the Nighthawk app.
TVs
- We unplugged all TVs so we could see each one join the network as it was turned on. The TV in the Den is turned on and connected to the network but does not show up in the Nighthawk app.
- All other TVs are unplugged right now.
11/25/2020
- The den TV and Scott’s iPad are turned on but don’t show up on the Nighthawk app.
- Other wireless devices like garage door opener are working but are not showing up in the Nighthawk app.

I don't see any question in there. Are you just reporting back?

Thanks for your response. All of the post is part of the question. I don't know why I started having issues last Friday. I had not made any changes. The information is the post describes the issues I am having. I don't know what to do to corrrect the issues and wonder if my router was hacked. Currently, the Nighthawk app will not list all the devices that are attached to the router and our cell phones have names that we didn't give them and are described as a Network not a Smart Phone. The TV that is listed is described as a Smart Phone and is the only TV that is listed (there should be 5).

Do you have your router set to do automatic firmware updates? Maybe it sneaked one in overnight.
