Nighthawk r9000 Stuck in AP Mode

Hi there,

I recently changed my Nighthawk X10 R9000 router into AP mode. It is now not accessible via 192.168.1.1 or any variation, Routerlogin.net, etc.

It still displays the Wi-Fi network of Netgear 45 and Netgear 45 RG, but neither will actually connect. It just times out. If the modem and a computer are plugged into the router's back, the internet works correctly. It is what I am typing on now. It tells me to setup via the nighthawk app, but the nighthawk app needs Wifi to work correctly.

I can not reset the modem back into router mode. I can not access the router in anyway. The IP address showing in ipconfig is the Internet IP address.

Doing a reset at the back of the modem with a pin. Lights flash. It seems to reset, but it remains in AP mode. i do 30,30,30 reset. No change. It returns to bridge/ap mode and not working Wifi.

Am I missing something?

When you set AP mode, default IP address it gets while in Dynamic configuration, gets it's IP address from the upstream connected host router. Look at the host routers connected devices table to see if an IP address appears there for the R9000 in AP mode. Use this IP address to access the router in AP mode.

There are various ways of finding the IP address of the R9000 in AP mode.

Netgear has a neat tool that can do that. The Netgear desktop genie can also manage various settings.

Netgear is trying to kill this useful utility, but for the time being you can find it here:

    genie | Product | Support | NETGEAR

Be warned that the genie installation file is wrapped up in a RAR archive that you have to decompress.

If you use that, it has a useful network map of your network.

The AP will show there. You can click on the icon for the AP and see the IP address. It should show you a clickable link that opens the GUI for the R9000

Netgear advises against it, but you can give the AP a fixed IP address. Then you can get at the thing again whenever you need to go in and change anything,

Just another user with time on their hands.
