Nighthawk X6 AC3200 model R8000 no lights

Howdy. For years I’ve had this router (Nighthawk X6 AC3200 model R8000 no lights ), and periodically it would stop allowing me to join the WiFi. My cure for this is to unplug it and plug it back in, and after it reboots all is well again. Before I unplug it, it has a bunch of lights on and looks like it’s functioning normally.

today I had the first part of the problem, meaning I couldn’t get on the wifi — but after I unplugged it and the lights went out, they never came back on. I’ve plugged it and replugged it, I let it sit unplugged more than an hour to make sure I’d let it “sit” long enough, I’ve tried the power switch… but all lights remain off no matter what I’ve tried.

anything I can do, or is it just dead?

thanks.

  • Thanks everyone! The problem is resolved. Y’all got me to test output of the power adapter, and I got no power at all there… UNTIL I checked the plug which brings AC power into the “brick.” That plug was loose at the brick. I corrected that and now the router is back in action!

    Thanks again!

Try pressing the reset button in back for 15 seconds?

Try finding another power adapter with same volts and amp and see if adding a new power adapter changes this.

I haven’t tried the reset yet because I don’t really want to lose all the settings. I believe the button would reset everything, so I’m wondering if there are other solutions. I’ll try to test voltage of the power supply tomorrow.

got an old matching power supply sitting around you could test with it? usually when all the lights are off, its either a power supply issue, the switch is off, or the jack broke.

I’m not sure I do, but I can test the output of the power supply and if it’s good I can check the jack. I’ve had to re-solder jacks when they come loose.

Glad you got it working. Please mark your thread as solved so others will know. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

Glad it was an easy fix! They aren't all easy but you got it.
