Nighthawk X6 R8000 - weekly reset needed (every 7 days) due to lost connection with internet

Product: Nighthawk X6 R8000, tri band wifi router

Firmware version: v1.0.5.88 (latest update per Jan. 25th 2025)

The router is located downstream:

  • Gateway: DKT Comega 79733 (fibre incoming)
  • Telia F1 router (ethernet cable between gateway and F1 router)

Ethernet cable between F1 router and R8000 router.

The F1 router is in bridge mode.

---------

The router came with the standard log in user and password (on a sticker attached to the router).

According to recommendations I changed the password for the three wifi bands (to another password than the sticker password).

The change of password was done on a Saturday.

One week thereafter, on the following Saturday, I was no longer able to connect to the three wifi bands.

My choosen wifi password was not accepted any more.

Tried as well the sticker password, without success.

Even equipment, that only is connected to the router through ethernet cable, lost its connection to internet.

Connected a laptop, via ethernet cable, to the router. Still not able to enter the setup menu for the router.

The only way to solve this was to reset the router (pinhole reset).

After reset:

In the setup menu for the router I, again, changed the wifi passwords.

Everything worked perfect/ as expected.

So it did for a week…

On the following Saturday (one week later) the same problem occurred again.

To solve it I followed he same procedure, as above. Again everything worked perfect/ as expected.

NOTE: I have used this router for several years, without problems. This problem did not happen as long as I used the sticker password for the router.

This problem started only after I changed to my choosen password.

The question:

This seems to be a problem that reoccurs every 7 days and it seems only to happen when you use a “non-standard” password (a password different than the sticker password).

What can be the reason?

Does the software have some weekly automated process that resets the password and sets it equal to the sticker password?

Some other suggestions?

I am curious as to the functional purpose of the Telia F1 router (in bridge mode) connected between the ONT gateway and the R8000?

Why is your R8000 not connected directly to your ONT gateway?

I could not find details on your specific model of ONT.  Does it have multiple LAN output ports?

      Beat me to it.

And what does "bridge mode" mean?

In a modem/router it means disabling the router bit. In a router it usually means "wireless bridge" with the router still active.

Just another user with time on their hands.

        Thank you for reply.

Correct regarding bridge mode. For a modem/ router the bridge mode sets the router out of function. In this case the router function of the F1 modem/router.

Prefer to use the R8000 since it has better functionalities than the F1 and can be located in a more optimal location (than F1) to distribute the wifi signal accross the building.

The F1 has to be located close to the fibre intake. That location is not optimal for wifi.

Anyhow this is detour. Any suggestions to my question?
