Nighthawk x6 r8000 connection issues. Unable to connect directly to Arris 6190 modem
I am unable to go directly from Arris 6190 to the Nighthawk mentioned above. My last resort was to use a previous Netgear WNDR 4000 Router as a "pass through"/access point. Works ok this way, but why...
The R8000 should connect and work well and get ISP speeds to spec if your testing with a wired LAN cable PC for speed testing only. QoS should be disabled on the R8000.
Then again, there maybe either a problem with the R8000 or the SB6190 or between the two. Again the 6190 modem has issues. You maybe better served by setting into a SB6183 which works well with my R7800 or a NetGear CM600. Stay away from the NG CM700 as it suffers the same issues as the 6190 modem.
You might take your R8000 to a friend, nieghbor or family member and test it out there at a different location to see if the problem follows or not. Then you'll know.
Try swapping LAN cables between the modem and router. Use good qualtiy CAT6 LAN cabling. Shortest length possible.
Be sure to power OFF the ISP modem for 30 seconds then let it sync then power ON the R8000. It should connect. Might try a factory reset on the router as well.

Nighthawk X6 AC3200 R8000 Connection Issues. I am Unable to connect directly to my new Arris 6190 modem. I followed the suggestions offered, but with no improvement. (New CAT 6 cables and reset both modem and router.)
As I and the family were in need of broadband connection, I reinstalled the Netgear N750/WNDR4000, which worked well, but with dated speed performance. I searched the internet for a solution with no success.
At one point, as I had tired of connecting and reconnecting cables, I connected the Nighthawk to one of the WNDR 4000 ethernet sockets. To my surprise, I was now getting full advantage of my Comcast 200 Mbps plan.
This is "fine", I guess, but am still scratching my head as to why I cannot connect directly without using the N750/WNDR 4000.
I am thinking of buying a used Netgear modem just to see if using a Netgear to Netgear product may solve the problem.
Anyone else have any other thoughts?

I swapped the 6120 for the Netgear CM1000 modem and after a long time on the chat line with a tech named Preeti, it was determined that I also had a faulty Nighthawk router. I replaced this with a less expensive R7000, (Shelf Price at WM only $134, WM online$179, BB $159).
Networking using my ASUS G53S, and Network adapter,A6200 now connect me to CC at 212 + Mbps.
