Nighthawk X6 R8000 set to AP mode cannot connect to NTP server. How to fix that?

I have a Nighthawk X6 R8000 set to AP mode (IP address 192.168.1.4). It is wired to the primary router which is a Verizon FiOS CR1000B router (192.168.1.1). I have a hard drive attached to the Nighthawk. The Nighthawk fails to connect to the Netgear NTP server and to the Google NTP server. As a result, the files I add to the hard drive are given the wrong date. How can I configure the router to allow it to connect to an NTP server?

In AP mode, the R8000 doesn't have much control over things.

In my case, an R7800 in AP mode works just fine when it comes to NTP settings. I am using the Netgear default and my local time zone.

Where did you set the IP address for the R8000? Fixed on the R8000 or reserved on the FiOS CR1000B?
