No internet

When setting up on my laptop the netgear genie says problem detecting internet connection and there is an orange light on the router above the internet symbol. I have power cycled everything and spoke to my internet provider. They say everything is fine on their end. Any ideas?

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

A power of sequence should be both router and ISP Modem turned OFF for 1 minute. Then back ON with the Modem. Then On with the router. Walk thru the setup wizard using a wired PC and web browser at 192.168.1.1

Are you using a wired PC and web browser to setup the router using it's web page?

Yes I have it wired to the router. I am using the setup at routerlogin.net
As for the modem it is just a tiny black box that has the cat5 cable and the cable from the outside coming into it and the power supply. The only thing it says is gigabit compatible and model psa15m-300

No stickers or anything marking on the ISP Modem/ONT where this CAT5e cable is?

Might try connecting a different cat cable, CAT6 is recommended.
