Old router network showing up on new router network - Nighthawk R7800
Hello - looking for some help. I recently purchased a new Netgear router to replace an older model. I set up the new using the same network name as I used with my last. We created a new password for Netgear Genie so that our parental controls could not be changed by anyone other than the password holder (important in our household). Just recently I did a test of the filtering we set up and was able to access things I should be able to. It was then that I noticed that the network name my device was connected to was different than what I had set up. After doing some looking on our network list I discovered that the previous network names were showing up in our new router list of networks and that they were still active and could be connected to with the correct password.
We need these old networks gone completely as they do not have any of the parental controls set up for them. We have tried forgetting the networks on each of our connected devices but they keep showing up in our network lists and we can still connect to them.
How do we completely delete these old networks from our router/network/system....etc? We are not tech savy folks so we need easy to follow, detailed steps to resolve if possible. I would call support but our 90 days are up and I'm not keen on spending $50 for one issue that I'm thinking will have a pretty straight forward fix. Any help you can provide would is greatly appreciated!!
Hello all - found the souce of the issue. The cable modem had a wifi network built into it that I had set up a long time ago, before I got the new router. That is the source of the networks that we don't want active. I have been able to disable that fuction on the modem while keeping my Netgear router active. Thank you very much for the time and ideas that helped us figure it out. Thanks!

Is your old router still connected to your network (and powered on)?

I should have included this in my first post. No, the older router is not plugged and powered on. I believe it's still in the house but it's in a closet or a box or something.

there are some disconnects in your post

how many networks do you have set up? if you are not tech savvy, then i expect you have just one network...so how come you're talking about NETWORKS?

When looking at our wifi list on my phone it shows (4) network names when there should only be two. What we expect to see is Russell309-5G and Russell309 as our network names. But the list also shows Russell3092 and Russell309_EXT. No we do not have an extender installed. We did with our last router which is why I belive the Russell309_EXT is showing up on the list. The extended is not plugged in and is stores in a cabinet.
When we set up our network wth the previous router we owned we used Russell309 as the network name. When installing the new router we used the same network name and modified the number as it relates to the Russell309-5G option that we did not have with the previous router.
