One of my clients is located in storm prone area and always has power outages

I have the same issue. One of my clients is located in storm prone area and always has power outages. After power is restored - everything comes back up automatically, except Netgear R7000 running FreshTomato 2022.5 and previously AdvancedTomato.

Fix is simple: unplug and plug power or use power button. They were connected to UPS previously but I've tested it at wall outlet - same issue. Is anyone aware of any setting that might help router power up automatically?

  • Hi, I had the same. I spoke to Netgear about the issue they said it might be some kind of protection from a sudden power outage. In fact, I have done some tests as well by cutting off the power and switching it back on and what I found was not always the router could not restart after the power outage. In my case was the frequency of the power outage. If it was one by one in a short period of time router did not start but if it was one-time power off the router did start. Finally, I decided to make a warranty complaint as btw one of the LAN ports stopped working.

Any settings that you can change are in the hands of the people who wrote your firmware.

    Ask them.

Even if it is something that you can control in the Netgear browser graphical user interface, (GUI) there is no guarantee that it will stick with your firmware.

My experience with recovering from power cuts is that both the modem and router have to cooperate. If the modem takes too long to boot up, the router can time out before it can connect. Sounds like this could be what you see.

Might be worth looking at the modem, if there is one, rather than the router.

Thank you for your reply. I tried different firmware (first AdvancedTomado, then FreshTomato) its the same. But in my lab -when I simulate power outage - my R7000 starts automatically every time.
