R6080 maxes out at 100mbps on my 1gig Spectrum service

So I have this Modem provided by Spectrum connected directly to my AC1000 router.

Currently I am subscribed to Gig service 1000mbps download / 40mbps upload.

Spectrum also provided me a Wireless router that gets speeds of 300mbps download when plugged in.

When I just have my Netgear router plugged in I have never had anything over 95mbps download.   Any ideas on how to adjust the Netgear router to get faster speeds?

Looks like this issue is pretty common, why is Netgear putting 300-700Mbps on the box.  Can you reply Netgear?

  • If you are using an ethernet cable please check the type. You need a cable that is Cat5E or Cat6. I made this silly mistake and took me a couple of hours to figure out. Ignore if you are already using the right cable.

Are you testing with a wired computer on a LAN port?

According to the R6080 AC1000 Dual Band WiFi Router Data Sheet, all Ethernet ports are fast Ethernet only ...

    ...

    • Five (5) 10/100Mbps (1 WAN and 4 LAN)
    Fast Ethernet ports with auto-sensing
    technology

    ...

Especially ref. the WAN/Internet port, this would be hard to believe to be correct, considering its promoted as

    • Dual-Band WiFi Router (up to 1Gbps)
    • Fast download speeds up to 1000Mbps

The 300+700 mb/s are the maximal wireless link rates the 2.4 GHz 802.1n and the 5 GHz 802.11ac radios can achieve.

i would love to hear kstotlani information is correct and the WAN port is Gigabit capable using a full eight strands/four pairs network cable - but I fear the Netgear marketing had a little bit a big mouth with their statements - and the data sheet is correct ref. the Ethernet ports.

    Visit the support pages:

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the manual and the bit Router specifications.

Yes, pretty outrageous when Netgear sells a device that comes up to the specifications. The puzzle is that it still made these 100BASE-T things in 2017 when just about every other devices had 1000BASE-T. Maybe they had a bin of old chips to use up.

The bit on the box is marketing speak that applies to the wifi speed between the router and wifi clients. (More accurately, it is about the wifi standards that the chips are supposed to follow.) It has not much to do with your Internet speeds with those wifi clients.

Your R6080 is not designed for the Internet service you pay for. Time to replace it with something more capable.
