r6700 software upgrade using mac os router
The software upgrades offered on the site do not work with my Mac computer - the files are exec files not dmg
- Mar 31, 2018
I discovered the solution which did not necessitate directly downloading the software. I simply opened the Netgear Genie and went to Router Settings tab and after scrolling through I found a tab for router update and clicked on the "Next"button and it did the upgrade in about 4 minutes.
It would be helpful if their was some note in the upgrade section of the website that mentioned that.

"do not work" is not a useful problem description. It does not say
what you did. It does not say what happened when you did it. As usual,
showing actual actions with their actual results (error messages, LED
indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague descriptions or
interpretations.
Which "The software upgrades", exactly, did you download? What,
exactly, did you do with it/them?
Bases on practically no actual information, I'll guess that you
(and/or Safari) downloaded some ".zip" archive, perhaps for an R6700v2
(not the plain R6700 cited below), and extracted its contents, which
included a ".img" file (not a ".dmg") file. And then, rather than read
the instructions in the "Release Notes" file which were also included in
the kit, you asked the Mac to open it, and got a complaint like, "The
following disk images couldn't be opened [...]".
If you try following the instructions, then you may get further.

Thank you for your rather sarcastic response. I did not download the R6700v2 files as you surmised but the correct files. There were NO img files only chk files when opened. I did not try to open it as I knew it would not work. Fortunately I discovered the solution by using the netgear genie without having to read anything
