R6700 WAN connects at 100Mbps
When connecting my modem to the WAN port, the link connects at 100Mbps. It didn't always do it, but it started after upgrading the firmware to the latest (oops). Since I have 1Gbps internet, I'd really like to get that 1000Mpbs link back.
I've tried downgrading the firmware to a number of different versions. No luck
Done the factory reset a few times. No luck
I've verified that there is no QoS, Parental control, access control.
My cable is a Cat5e and have verified that it works. I can plug it into a different router and will get a 1000Mbps connection (and fast internet). In fact, I can even plug the same cable into one of the LAN ports and it will negotiate a 1000Mbps connection. But when I plug it into the WAN, I get 100Mbps.
I've seen this topic come up a few times, but unfortunately no luck. I do have another router and will use that, but I'd also like to understand this behavior. Maybe it's just old? RIP

Do you have a different cable or a cat 6 cable to try? I've seen sketchy cables work at gigabit on some devices but not others.

So that's interesting. I can't easily directly plug in my modem to the router with an entirely new cable due to how the fiber comes in to the house or where power is located relative to the devices. But I can plug in a new hot Cat5e into the WAN port and it does land at 1000Mbps using the intermediate switch approach. I can go from the modem to a switch (well technically my other router) and then connect that using a new line to this Netgear router. In reality, I'd just go with the good router.
It's almost as if my modem "doesn't want to negotiate" a Gbps link with my router's WAN port.
