R7000 factory reset itself 5 days ago, now constantly dropping WiFi signal

I woke up Saturday morning to find all my devices off line; after much tinkering and power cycling, I realize my 8 month old nighthawk r7000 had factory reset itself over night, dropping the network name and custom password I’d created when I set it up. Since then, it’s periodically dropping WiFi multiple times per day, typically going out and coming back within ten minutes but genuinely making me look like an a-hole at work as I lose connection to meetings or stop responding to slack.

I didn’t pay extra for a support package because frankly I expect things to work, and the last thing I want to do is call a customer service phone number.

I’ve checked the damn firmware on the nighthawk app and it says it’s updated, but appears to give me no option to downgrade the f ing firmware. I don’t know if it needs to be downgraded or if this router is just trash? I’ve already ordered an Eero, because f Netgear at this point, but any help is welcome, as I have to survive three more work days of this. Any help is welcome.

Maybe there was a silent firmware upgrade while you were asleep.

Have you tried to do anything to fix your problems?

It is in the manual, but this might be quicker:

How do I manually upgrade firmware to my NETGEAR router? | Answer | NETGEAR Support

    Visit the support pages:

    Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

That page will also have any software, firmware and drivers for your device, if they exist.

Check the section in the manual on updating the firmware.

I had the same problem.  It occured about 6pm CST.

The router simply stopped and the original default SSI signal appeared.  It has been dropping the wifi for some time, and I was about to buy a new router (this one has been working basically flawlessly since 2016) until I came across this forum.

I'm going to roll back to .42 and hope that fixes it.  This is incredible that Netgear rolled out a firmware update that is causing so many problems.  I'm going to update the firmware, factory reset it, and then turn off auto updates.  It was working fine, and I'm not a big fan of updates when something isn't broken.

How many other people had their router reset out of the blue last week?  Here are 2 people at least!
