R7000 fw V1.0.11.126_10.2.112 fails to connect to internet when set for Static IP

My Fiber ISP provider assigned me one static IPv4 address.  I am attempting to configure the Netgear R7000 router (WAN not LAN) IP address for the Internet connection.

The R7000 used as simple router - Ethernet and Wifi LAN.

Topology: Fiber Modem <--> R7000 WAN port <--> LAN (wired & Wifi)

My ISP provided the assigned:

  • IPv4 static address
  • subnet
  • subnet mask
  • gateway IP address

According to my ISP there is no account, domain name or host name or login required.

I followed Netgear R7000 user guide instructions for "Manually Set Up the Internet Connection (without a Login)

Select Internet --> (no login or Domain name) --> Select "Use Static IP Address. Enter:

  • IP address, IP subnet mask, and gateway IP address as assigned.
  • Use the Default Address for Router MAC address
  • Apply

Result, no internet access, even after pushing Test button, rebooting or power cycling the R7000 router.

The ISP tells me they see the router (they read me back its MAC address), but I don't get any internet connectivity.  Note that the router provides internet connectivity with the ISP in DHCP mode (when the ISP  undoes the assigned static IP address option and I do the same with the router configuration)

Suggestions?

  • I tried the sequence suggested by FURRYe38 but that did not help.  So the ISP sent their technician to the site who confirmed that the problem was with the particular IP address they had assigned.  They provided and provisioned a different IP address, and that solved the problem.  It worked without needing to cycle power on the Fiber Modem or the Netgear R7000 router.  So, the bottom line is that the issue was with the ISP, not the router.  So my problem is solved.  FURRYe38 Thank you for chiming in with your suggestion.

If the ISP doesn't required PPPoE account configuration, then use only DHCP for the Internet configuration.

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
    Turn off and unplug modem.
    Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.
