R7000 is 2.4 GHz but AC1900 Extender is 5GHz - I need to change extender to 2.4GHZ

My cameras cannot connect to 5GHz so I need to change my AC1900 extender to 2.4 GHz to match my R7000 but cannot figure out how to do it.  Any help is appeciated...thanks...bob

       Not a very detailed description.

Says who?  Why?  In many cases, what's actually needed is to get some
phone/tablet (with the critical app) to connect to the 2.4GHz radio.  If
you can select to which radio the phone/tablet connects, then the mere
existence of a 5GHz radio should not be a problem.  If you can't select
to which radio the phone/tablet connects, then disabling the confounding
    5GHz radio should be helpful.

"AC1900" is a speed, not a model number.  Look for "Model" on the
product label.  With that datum in hand, visit
http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look for
Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).  Read.  Look for a topic
like, say, "Disable or Enable the WiFi Radios".

This is usually a setup thing.

Are you using some sort of mobile app to configure your cameras?

Many camera makers, such as Arlo, connect at 2.4 GHz but they will happily let you set them up with a mobile that connects to the 5 GHz network. Unfortunately, less capable app designers get this wrong and won't work in this mode.

There is a quick way around the problem.

If you cannot force your mobile to connect to 2.4 GHz, try this:

    • temporarily disable the router's 5 GHz.
    • Tell the mobile to forget the 5 GHz SSID.
    • Give it a minute or two to forget the 5 GHz wifi connection
    • Connect to 2.4 GHz.
    • Do your thing with the IoT device
    • Enable the 5 GHz wifi
    • Complain to the people who made the IoT gadget

That strategy has worked for a lot of people.

If you need help on turning off the 5 GHz wifi, check the manual.

    Visit the support pages:

    Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

Check the section in the manual Enable or Disable the Wireless Radios.

If you can set up the camera with the router that should work – I have done that and then moved the camera to a different location – but there should be a similar setting in the Extender.

Your cameras can't "see" the 5 GHz wifi, so once set up it won't get in the way.

Your network is a bit complicated by having a router and extender to play with. (In my case, I have a router network and another Orbi network.) If the above doesn't work, throw in some more explanation about your setup and someone might have further thoughts.

      Thank you for responding...

My Router model is R7000 my extender is EX7000-100NAS.  When I log into my routers I see the R7000 as 2.4GHz and the EX7000-100NAS as 5GHz.

      I have Arlo 3 cameras.

When I plug the Arlo hub into the R7000 the cameras connect and are viewable via the internet.  When I plug the Arlo hub into the EX7000-100NAS the hub blinks amber and does not connect.  Arlo support tried several things but says my cameras do not work with 5GHz - not sure I can change that.  I am using the extender to reach the cameras when they are placed at the back of the house.

FYI, apparently my wife's laptop can't connect to the extender either.  It is a 4 year old machine running Windows 10 but the extender network name does not show as a possible network.  My laptop connects just finr and I can see both networks.

Before my initial post I reviewed the manual but could not find help.

That suggests that the Arlo hub (which one?) does not connect through the EX7000 to the Internet. That is why the cameras don't work.

Is the EX7000 in AP mode (wired to the R7800) or extender (wifi) mode?

The cameras connect to the Arlo hub at 2.4 GHz, the link between the hub and the router is irrelevant.

If the EX7000 broadcasts at both 2,4 GHz and 5 GHz, the cameras can connect.

In my case, the Arlo hub (VMB4540) is connected over Powerline Ethernet to the R7800. The cameras happily connect to the hub.

That sounds like ill-informed drivel. It does not matter.

Sounds like you have a setup problem with the EX7000. Try fixing that before you worry about the Arlo stuff.
