R7000 sees USB flash drive; does not see USB hard drive
I plug a no-name 8GB USB 2.0 flash drive into the USB 2.0 port, and the R7000 recognizes it immediately.
I plug my 500 GB WD My Book Essentials 2.0 USB 2.0 hard drive into the same port, and the router does not recognize it. This drive is NTFS formatted, only one partition on it, works fine when directly connected to my desktop computer, does not require any special drivers.
Firmware Version V1.0.9.64_10.2.64
That should work as it is powered by its own power supply.
Three possible things to look at:
- The cable, either slightly damaged or the port itself.
- Does it work in the USB 3.0 port? If it does, it could be the firmware, many people have a variety of problems with V1.0.9.64_10.2.64.
- Try running CHKDSK on it on the PC (it should ask you to do this when plugged in if it is discovered to have a problem though).
