Yup, I ended up just going back to original firmware. I'm probably never going to upgrade or touch a Netgear firmware again.

After updating to fw xx.32 I lost almost all control over 2.4 Ghz devices. 1st gen chrome cast disappeared from all devices, even though it claimed to be connected, and the connected device list on the R7000 only showed cable connected and 5Ghz connected devices, even though several 2.4 devices was connected and working including the phone I used to check the router.
Reverted to fw xxx.28 and all is good again. Netgear should remove their last update asap.
