As them what does "much better" mean?
There are lots of "AC standard" things. You could get away with something a lot cheaper. What else are you looking for in it? What are you connecting?

There was about a 95 dollar difference I also thinking the r6400 the house just a little bigger then a 1100 square foot and is 72 years old with the wireless printer just on the outside wall of closed in carport, one laptop with an ac 1300 wifi adaptor and one wired desktop giga nic. My internet speed test out at 72 too 73 mbit download and about 6 mbit upload give or take few points. I also have most the rooms wired with cat6 cable and lan port.

You could use wifi extenders to reach parts that the main router cannot serve.
I would have suggested Powerline for that, but LAN would be much better.
