So far so good.

The ISP modem is in fact in bridge mode. I double checked.It is the router that initiates the disconnect. It is not clear why.Is there any way to log the router's actions in more detail in order to troubleshoot what is going on?

I ask because different devices have different ways of getting into those settings and there have been times when people assume that they are in bridge mode simply because they turned off the wifi from a modem/router. In this case, that modem looks much like Netgear's DM200, with only basic router function and no wifi, so we can rule that one out. comtrend vr-3030 bridge mode - Google Search

    Couple of options,
