R7200 Getting internet speeds at about half of what they should be

Recently, my ISP came and replaced my old modem as it died. It was a modem/router combo and I was wired directly into that and getting the full internet speed provided by my ISP (300 mbps). They replaced it with a regular modem so I am now forced to wire into the NETGEAR R7200 that I have and my internet speed is now unstable and slow (often 6 MB/s but usually tops out at around 12 MB/s) which is about half of what it used to be when I was wired into the modem. I have tried upgrading the firmware to the latest version (V1.2.0.92_1.0.1), enabling QoS and setting my PC as the highest priority, disabling QoS, factory resetting the router, and nothing has worked. Even with my VPN off, it's still half the speed it should be. Any suggestions? If any more info is required, I will do my best to provide it.

Are those wired or wireless speeds?

Did you test the wired speed right after the reset without making any changes to it?

Make sure qos, access control, parental controls, and traffic monitoring are disabled. (and if you reset, don't re-enable them at all)

If you had reinstalled from a backup, try the reset again and don't use the backup.

Did you test speeds directly connected to the modem?

      1. Those are wired speeds.
      2. Yes. They are half.
      3. 👍
      4. I did not reset from a backup
      5. I tried but my PC wasn't allowing me to receive internet from the modem for some reason. The ISP tested it themselves and said I am getting the full 300 mbps through the modem.

ISP's are great at saying "the line's fine".

So we need to get that modem testing first.

        what actual modem is it?

Try this. Power off the modem and disconnect everything from it (even coax.) Make sure pc is powered off too.

Wait 10 minutes. (some ISP's take a while to release the public ip) usually its only 2 minutes.

Connect coax back to the modem and power it back on. Wait 2 minutes.

Direct connect the pc to the modem and power it on.

Once its fully booted, test its speeds.
