R7800 cannot administer over ethernet cable
I am trying to install new firmware on my new R7800. Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to connect to it from my computer using the Ethernet cable. It sounds very like a problem other users have h...

Is the mode of the 7800 actually set for AP mode or router mode?
If you have the 7800 in AP mode, the the 7800 should be connected to the main host router via one of it's LAN ports in back to one of the LAN ports on the main host router. Do not use the WAN or Internet Port on the 7800. When in AP mode and using LAN to LAN connections to the main host router, log in to the main host routers web page and look at the connnected clients table to see what IP address the 7800 is getting from the main host router. Use this IP address to access the 7800s web page.

Hmm... just on the off chance, is your router the actual router? Or is it an access point? Maybe the address is something other than 192.168.1.1? I do not know of a config that would only allow access via wifi and not via ethernet. Is your PC connected directly to the R7800 or to a different device when wired?

Yes, I think this might be the issue - I had set it up as an access point because when going through the wizard it asked if I could disable wifi on the modem, and I can't see any way to do that ( it's a BT Home Hub 5). Will see if I can set it up as a router when I get home from work later, hopefully that will sort it. Thanks for the quick reply :)

Yes you can check this via both genie app and mac . Compare the ip address and see if any changes.
Wifi address and Lan address will be same if set as AP and router. But if you are setting as AP and allows the HUB to do that.
You can check the router IP via genie app. It will tell the router gui ip to login. Even AP can be reached via lan or wireless instead of hitting the predefine router ip one have to hit the router assigned ip to reach.

Cool. Genie should work, unless you have 2 netgear devices (one as router, one as AP). So go to your router, check the device list and find the AP you want to administer. Or, when connected via wifi, check the address assigned to the AP via the web admin GUI. Good luck!
