R7800 dropping internet connection (sending renew or sysinit) while streaming UDP (IP TV)

Hi community

My R7800 drops internet connection randomly when I stream IP TV (UDP) from my provider.

I have a 1 Gbit fiber service which normally works perfect.

When I watch a HD TV stream (UDP) all of a sudden the image freezes and internet is disconnected. Sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes after 20 minutes... I can reproduce it on different computers.

I captured a debug log (via http://192.168.1.1/debug.htm) and when the router drops the internet connection I see either a "sysinit" log entry or a "sending renew" log entry. I assume that my router somehow restarts.

Unfortunately I do not have more information in the debug log file.

Anyone else experience this problem?

I have the latest firmware V1.0.2.52

Any help is appreciated!

  • Problem solved! I bought an ASUS router, now everything works as a charm. Netgear you better fix this issue...

Sorry to say that Netgear was not able to fix it...

  • Is there a possibility to get a more detailed log file from my router to see what's going on?

  • Tested agin today. Started two times TV stream which killed my internet connection after a few minutes.

    Details from the log:

    How can I fix this?

  • Hi,

did a hard reset (factory reset) today and reconfigured my router again. No luck. The router still drops the internet connection when i stream a TV channel (udp protocol).

netgear please help. Give me a sign that you care about such problems!

That seems to be the fix for a lot of folks, myself included after fighting a r8000 and r8000p I got the Asus rt-ac86u and it just ran with Merlin firmware. Did recently find r7800 cheap on Ebay and decided to give it a try as friend says runs good for him Running Voxel firmware and the r7800 is running well for me. I do not do VPN or NAS support, just router/Ethernet/wireless support. Slower on my simple wireless iperf test then the ac86u and I like the additional client info I can get from the ac86u.

If I could have only one it would be the Asus rt-ac86u. Sorry Netgear, but you just do not have it right now, especially with same bugs dragging on for months.

Hardware wise on the WiFi side the R7800 is superior to the 86 in my testing like most reviews thanks to the QCA9984 chipset and it has working HT160 and MU unlike the Broadcom based 86U but unfortunately the R7800 still has nagging bugs, at least the WiFi is stable for me and HT160 is great with my 9260ac. Asus’s R7800 equivalent (828U) apparently is even more buggy and the only one with the same hardware that has a good UI and properly managed firmware is the RT2600AC from Synology.
