R7800 router showing RED on power and can no longer connect to it via WiFi or cable
Hi,
My wife came back after working in US for some time (I live in France) and brought back her R7800 with her.
Since it is a much better router than the one that comes with our internet provider, I decided to use that instead and the first thing it asked for was to upgrade the firmware.
I accepted it and it went on for a while and I left it to walk the dog and came back to see the power LED light showing RED, no Wifi is visible, tried to connect with calble and it keep initializing connection before dropping it, tried factory reset, I see that it turns off after a few seconds and then goes back to the same mode.
Only one LED is white, and it is the one for the ethernet cable, when I pull the cable out, it is all dark except for the power LED that is RED.
Tried to search to se what I can find but nothing seems to help.
Thanks, I know, I just installed DD-WRT on it and going to go from there.
Thanks to you, it is no longer bricked and I can communicate with it.

A red power LED is a sign of broken firmware. Perhaps something happened while you were out walking the dog.
There is more severe, recovery reset, that you could try:
- Press reset for 30 seconds
- Keep pressing reset while removing power
- Keep pressing reset for another 30 seconds while apply power
If that fails, you are into TFTP country.

This isn't the easiest operation, so if you are forced to use it, you could try a web search to find videos that guide you through the process.
Different router same process.

Thank you, I tried everything and I believe it is time to use TfTP on it. I have never done it and hopefully it will work!

If at first you don't succeed, try and try again.
It can take a few attempts. Timing is important.
