r7800 router wifi horrible
Hello Netgear community,
I went against my own suggestions and purchased a Netgear router (r7800 x4s ac2600). At first (for a few moths) it worked great; I was getting good throughput on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz, then things started going down hill and now I am almost ready to can this thing. I am now getting 24d/18u on 5ghz and 17d/17u on 2.4ghz and my 5ghz constantly dropps and reconnects. The router (hardwired) gets a constant 595(+/- a bit)/18(+/- a bit). My ISP speed is 600/20. The router has never been configured for anything outside the box default with the exception of the normal admin account and SSID setup. I am about done with this thing and will be more than happy to give it it's appropriate rating of 1 star with notes....
Things I have attempted already:
- I have changed physical locations throughout the house: no change or worst
- upgraded and downgraded firmware: no change
- turned MU-MIMO off and on: no change
- turned QoS off and on: no change or worst
- changed the Preamble Mode: no change
- checked the channels for optimization with a wifi analyzer: channels optimized, no change
- enabled and desabled Smart Connect: worst, 5ghz continuously bounced
- changed the 20/40 MHz Coexistence (enabled/disabled) - no change
- changed 5ghz mode to use up to 800mbps instead of 1733 to try and stabilize my 5ghz drop issue: stabilized for a bit longer, still drops just not as frequent. Throughput did not improve.
- I have tested the wireless speeds using different devices at different distances, from being 5 feet away to being in other rooms and levels. On the good side, during my distance testing, the speeds were consistent, horrible but consistent.
I have not tried to remove all but the testing device off of the network, however; I do not think I should have to...
Obviously because this is a home product, ther is no CLI for it and I coud not really troubleshoot it any further. Am I missing something here or do I have a dud router? I would hate to rate this thing and give my full bashing rant if I am missing something. Anyone have any ideas?

Hello again,
I have now eliminated WiFi conjestion from otehr devices by performing:
- block devices via Access Control: I was able to pickup 1 additional mbps for a total of 26.1mbps/18mbps on 5ghz, 18/18 on 2.4
- changed wifi password on 2.4 and 5ghz: same as above

When you downgraded firmware, did you do a factory reset and clean install (not from backup)?
When you cleain install leave access control, qos, parental controls, and traffic monitoring off.
also, how are you checking speeds? (built in app, what device, etc)
