R7800 will not hook up to a laptop running windows 10

I am so frustrated.  I have a laptop running windows 10 and I can see the netgear router and I am putting in the correct password but my laptop continues to say it cannot connect to the network.  Can anyone tell me what to do to fix this problem and explain it in simple step by step processes?  I am a novice.

  • Navigate to your routers web page.

Under the Advanced tab, navigate to Setup, then Wireless setup. You'll find these settings here...

    I use UpTo300Mb on 2.4Ghz, manual channels 1, 6 or 11 and WPA2 and AES only.

Does your Laptop connect to the router with a LAN wired cable?
