R8000 firmware update takes ages or has crashed? No amber blinking power.

I updated the firmware of my Netgear R8000 as always in the control panel. It started with updating and dowloading. But after a minute or so, it lost connection to the control panel.

A reboot or something, so I thought. So I was refreshing, but there was no connection possible to the router address. But I still had a working internet connection. So went on with doing what I did.

After a half an hour or so, the internet connection was lost. And not long after that, the WiFi also. It still sends out the Wifi network, since I can see then. But it won't connect. It now has been an hour. But I still can't connect to the router. And I'm afraid to reset or turn of the power. Becaue maybe it is still working on the dirmware update? I don't want to wreck it.

But it doesnt' have a (amber) blinking power light. I don't have a windows computer (all Mac here and therefore also no ethernet connection).

What could be wrong? And what to do?

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
    Turn off and unplug modem.
    Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.

    A factory reset maybe needed...

I don't know the exact firmware version. I think it went from the 58 to the 76 version. But that is something I hopefully remembered correct. And I can't look it up right now.

I don't have an ISP modem in between the router. I have a fibre connection which is connected via a media converter to a managed swich, which separates the VLAN with the internet.

And haven't powered off. Since I was afraid I would corrupt the firmware update? But I will try then....

[Edit} It was the solution eventually. Thank you very much FURRYe38. I was hesitative to try, because of the firmware update.
