In which there's a link to a particularly old KB article (19841).
Also, on a Mac, the ping command suggested there will run forever (or
until manually interrupted, typically by Ctrl/C). For behavior similar
to that on Windows, use a command like the following:
ping -c 4 192.168.1.1
