R8000 only getting half download speed on Comcast Xfinity 600Mb service

I have recently upgraded to the Xfinity 600Mb download internet service.

 

I've got an R8000 router with V1.0.4.62_10.1.74 firmware.

The cable modem is an Arris SB6190. Both are more than capable of this download bandwidth. I am NOT using the Xfinity gateway nor any other networking equipment.

 

The R8000 has been working very well for almost 3 years, with no dropouts nor ohter issues,

 

I'm only seeing approximately 300Mb downloads, using the built-in Speedtest client in the router, and slightly slower speeds using Speedtest on my phone, tablet and computer.

 

The comcast tech was just here and measured about 729 Mb download from the modem out to Comcast's equipment. When he tested the router, the speed from the router is only about 300Mb down.

 

I do not have QOS enabled, nor do I have traffic monitoring enabled.

 

Suggestions on getting the full bandwith ?

    1. factory reset the router. Then do a clean install, not from backup. i've read of settings being retained even though a device is rebooted. 

    2. Leave access control, parental control, qos, and traffic monitoring all disabled. 

    3. The built in app doesn't always choose the best server. its a nice feature but not that useful for peak testing.

    4. Wireless isn't going to max out a 600mbps connection on the R8000. Only hardwired will. Make sure to test hardwired. When using the speedtest app hardwired, try several servers in case it picks a slow server.

      The routers are supposed to retain their settings after they are rebooted.

      I don't have anything with ethernet ports any more. The comcast tech did both router AND modem tests separately, using wired ethernet. It still points to the router being the bottleneck.

        These are already disabled----See above, if they were enabled, cut through forwarding gets disabled with is what allow for speeds more than 250mbps.

        I don't have anything with ethernet ports any more.----Then you aren't going to see the 600mbps that you pay for. The only way you're going to max them out is hardwired in.  The comcast tech did both router AND modem tests separately, using wired ethernet.----and is the tech going to come out each time you want to test hardwired? Probably not. time to borrow a laptop/pc to test with. Or order a usb---ethernet adapter to test with.  It still points to the router being the bottleneck.---it probably was. If you'd had those services on, it disables cut through forwarding. And sometimes it takes a factory reset to re-enable it. If you don't want to take those steps, that's on you. there's only so much we can do to help before it comes down to the end user.
