- Nov 21, 2017This is the reply from the helpdesk from yesterday : Hello,
Thank you for contacting Netgear Support.
Unfortunately our developers do not announce the release dates of upcoming firmware, so I am unable to supply you with that information.
You have indicated that there are problems with the router performance since you updated the firmware. In such a case, it is possible to downgrade the firmware, until a new version of the firmware is released that addresses the problems of the earlier version.
To downgrade your firmware, please follow these steps :
1) Go to this link to download the firmware version 1.0.9.10. (Current version is 1.0.9.12)
https://kb.netgear.com/000049003/R7000-Firmware-Version-1-0-9-10
->Save this file, and extract the zip into a folder, e.g. on your desktop
2) Connect an Ethernet cable to your router and a laptop / PC
3) Open a browser and go to this address : routerlogin.net
4) Enter the password that you chose during the router setup. If you did not change it, it will be ‘password’
5) When you see the menu, go to Advanced -> Administration -> Router Update
6) Click on Browse and choose the folder where you unpacked the zip file, then choose the .chk file.
7) Click on Upload and wait for the installation to complete.
I hope this will help you with the performance problem of your router.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Please note that if you prefer to communicate in Dutch just reply to this case in Dutch.
Have a great day,
Kind regards
Joeri

I downloaded and upgraded the router to version V1.0.9.14_1.2.25 and these are my observations:
- for the first time i get 87.30 Mbps (speedtest.net app) on my iphone (previously it would be around 40Mbps max)
- I have 93.7 Mbps on my laptop
- The range seems to be improved as i now have full bars wifi on my laptop (Windows 7 / Dell)
For now it seems that netgear (finally) got it under control. Hopefully the roouter stays stable and performing.
I would recommend upgrading to this firmware version.

Ok, now I am confused. I was and still am getting 40's speed. If I go back to 1.0.9.6 my speed is fine. See pic, slow is before and after 1.0.9.14 and middle is 1.0.9.6. I have a iPhone 6S and iPad (latest model) and both exhibit same issue?
- tulongDec 01, 2017GuideI have 25/25M Internet connection. When I ran the speed test, I got full 25/25M. For the wireless transmission speed, which is totally different than the Internet speed, my test showed 270Mbps on 2.4Ghz and 910Mbps on 5Ghz. Hope that helps.

Hope that helps. How are you doing local speed test from IOS to R7000? Using an app or something else?
- tulongDec 01, 2017GuideYes. I used Wi-Fi SweetSpots app

Yes. I used Wi-Fi SweetSpots appI went and got that app, it tells you the theoretical Wi-Fi max speed rather than actually testing anything. It is more for signal strength testing than throughput testing. Thank you though because you prompted me to test out two other apps.
Using SpeedSmart and Speedcheck I am able to get 200+ speed. It is only the SpeedTest app that has the issue. However it doesn't have issue on 1.0.9.6? Weird.
- bryrpDec 01, 2017GuideCould always switch to one of the open source alternative router firmware.

I also had an issue with all of my iOS devices registering no more than 40K. I tried a factory reset after the upgrade to avail. After returning to 1.0.9.6, all of my iOS devices returned to downloading at 200K+.
- tulongDec 11, 2017GuideStupid me again. Ran the latest firmware update and guess what:
- the speed on 2.4Ghz has dropped big time. Downloading a 8M file show one day and 7 hours
- IOS get dropped more frequently on 5Ghz channel
I will have to revert back to the last firmware which gave me much better speed and stability. - Diggie3Dec 11, 2017LuminaryHave you tried updating the QOS database/engine, even if you don't have the QOS feature enabled? That's been reported to help.
- aubylifeDec 11, 2017Guide
My unit died suddenly.
Firstly, It's usb 2.0 does not work anymore. Now, a few months later, it's Lan ports all gone. Not working even tried the reset, power off/on.
Speechless
- ak988Dec 11, 2017AspirantI retired the R7000. At almost every firmware upgrade the past several years there have been problems. I got a Norton Core. Goodbye Netgear.
- PatrickvbDec 11, 2017TutorA Norton Core with review comments "Average router performance. No venting. Lacks VPN functionality. Best features require monthly subscription fee after the first year."? Well, good choice and good luck with that.
- tulongDec 11, 2017GuideWill try tonight. Thanks
- bryrpDec 12, 2017Guide
everyone - please try the following: Advanced -> Setup -> QoS Setup -> and disabling WMM for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
hopefully that will cut the crap with the wireless issues.
- Criticalpain26Dec 13, 2017Aspirant
It did not for me :(
I am also having a 5G wifi problem after updating to V1.0.9.14.
Normally around 350MB/s on 5G, and now it looks like its locked on 40MB/s ish.
I'm going back to V1.0.9.12 so see if that works.

this is my last netgear product (unforunately). I will also cease to suggest netgear as a router for friends and family (Systems engineer here). For those of you that are tired of the wireless issues please look into flashing DD-WRT or Advanced Tomato firmware. They have a version available for the r7000 router that is far more feature friendly as well as functional at the very basics that should be default for a router.
- tulongDec 15, 2017Guide
I may give this suggestion a try as I am so tired of this freaking router. If after flashing the firmware didn't work, I would go and get a Linksys router as a replacement. I am going to do the same as you said that I will not ever suggest Netgear product to anybody and will advise them to stay away of that brand as a disease.
- tulongDec 15, 2017Guide
I look on the site and dd-wrt doesn't have one that supports Netgear R7000 model just yet :-(
- tulongDec 15, 2017Guide
However, Advanced Tomato does have the firmware for Netgear R7000 yay.

Firmware V1.0.9.18_1.2.27 is available now. Who wants to test??
- shamarinDec 18, 2017Virtuoso
Allready update to this one. It's good.
- juchedDec 18, 2017Apprentice
Just updated, will see. First couple speed tests on wired machine are slower... I hope I don't need to "factory reset" and do all my configuration again.
- shamarinDec 18, 2017Virtuoso
Didn't have any problems with Wi-Fi. With 1.0.9.14 802.11ac for Russian region was fixed (on previous it was available only 600 Mbit speed, now 1300 Mbit as should be).
- PatrickvbDec 18, 2017Tutor
I would like to understand what has been changed or fixed in the latest version before i update. I am on V1.0.9.14_1.2.25 now. Sometimes the wifi speed drops under the 10Mbps but after a reboot of the router it's back at >90 Mbps.
- tulongDec 18, 2017Guide.23 was not great but better. The .25 was horrible. My Wi-Fi just got dropped all the time with 5Ghz channel and the speed was terrible.
