Router R6400V2 Reboot

I have a router R6400V2 nighhawk.

Some time ago, I noticed that my internet connection was dropping.

I found that my router was resetting too many times.

I read a lot looking for the solution and did the following processes:
- I updated firmware
- I installed old firmware
- Checked adapter cables
- Measure voltage on adapter

Nothing worked. So I did the following:
- I installed the router on an internal network without internet and connected 2 notebooks.
I made a copy of a 4GB file and the router restarted.

I put a fan under the router and went through the process again. There was no restart of the router.

I believe the problem is overheating in the router.

  • If its overheating and your router not on warranty anymore  I'd drill holes on the top part of the casing of the router, but I'd unassemble it to not drill into the  circuitboard.

A cheap laptop/usb fan might be an ideal solution before just drilling holes in it. I've seen a few people get enthusiastic with their drilling and hit the motherboard and wreck it. Plus the router has a usb port that can power the fan.

You're not going to get a response from netgear as this is the public support community.

If the device is still in warranty, you could check on an RMA.

        Or use the fan option.

You might have just been anfortunate and gotten a device with a cpu the runs hot.
