Slow Netgear Nighthawk X6 AC3200

When I connect my computer directly to internet with ethernet cable I get speed 500/500

but when I instead go through my Netgear router (ethernet cable from computer to router

and ethernet cable from router to internet) then I only get speed 250/250.

Why is that?

  • Which firmware version? (not "the latest")

Do you have QoS or TrafficMeter enabled?

Along with qos/traffic meter, also make sure access control and parental controls are disabled and then reboot the router.

If that doesn't help, try a factory reset and reinstall. Test it in its default configuration.

You can't connect directly to the Internet. There is always something between you and it.

This is either a modem, a "gateway", which could be a modem that also has a router, or an optical termination.

That something also affects what your router does.

Please excuse the long response time.

I have tried to do everything adviced including factory reset.

But nothing changes and I still get speed cirka 250/250 with ethernet cable computer

to Netgear and ethernet cable Netgear to optical/fiber internet connection.

However, if I unplug ethernet cable from Netgear to computer so that computer switch

to WiFi internet from my other router (supplied by my internet supplier) then I get speed

cirka 500/500 which is what I pay for.

      Best regards

Yes, but we have no idea what "everything " means to you. How about answering the questions first asked by microchip8 ?
