sudden R7000 slow wifi

Xfinity 1G service, i get 800-900Mbs. Netgear CM1000 v2 Modem.

Until a week ago, any wireless device was getting 200-400mbs. The day after my hardware warranty went out, that stopped. Nice scam netgear. Regardless, it went from 200Mbs to 1-40Mbs wifi. Nothing changed.

My gaming PC that is wired to the router gets 800-900Mbs consistently.

Where do i start?

  • There is a newer version of the firmware version 1.0.11.116.

Also, the agreed upon stablest/fastest version is the 1.0.9.42 version.

With any changes tot he R7000 firmware, I recommend doing it over a hardwired connection and then doing a factory reset/clean install afterwards. By clean I mean don't use a backup configuration.

Are you connected to the 2.4ghz or the 5ghz?

5ghz is much faster but has shorter range.

2.4ghz is much much slower but broadcasts further and through more materials.

What device are you testing on?
    Are you using smart connect?

What firmware is on the router?
