What "vpn service" do you have setup on the router?
Most often, I see users using a thirdparty firmware solution for decent vpns

ReadyPlayer2025 - if you are using the cloud-hosted VPN service (Nord, ExpressVPN, ZeroTier, etc), then you don't need to set up anything in your router.
So we do need more details here.

I am using the OpenVPN client on a Windows 10 workstation.
The VPN Service setup is the one on the NetGear R6700v3 under the Advanced setup.
The client will attach to the router and get the 192.168.254.2 address. I then went to check the router and see that it shows my laptop as an attached device.
However, I can't ping for attach to anything on the internal 172.16.200.xxx / 24 network.
One forum post mentioned something about enabling passthrough on the NetGear, but there is no option like that I can find.
